Bulk Earthworks are engineering works created through the moving or processing of parts of the earth’s surface involving quantities of soil or unformed rocks. The earth may be moved to another location. They are done in order to make an area a suitable height and level for specific construction purposes. Much of earthworks involve machine excavation and fill or backfill.

With bulk earthworks, the aim is to reuse as much as possible of the excavated materials to prevent both the costly collection of waste material and the delivery of extra earth materials.
